I love the intersection of space and horror movies. There is something grand about watching a space movie where a monster or villain kills off people one-by-one in the vacuum of space. This intersectional genre is commonly referred to as “deep space horror.” My second favorite type of movie is where aliens visit earth and are predator types bent on the destruction of humans, whether it’s by their own survival or as sport. Here is a somewhat ordered list of my favorite fifteen movies that sorta fall into these two category types…

  1. The Thing (1982)
  2. Aliens (1986)
  3. Event Horizon (1997)
  4. Prometheus (2012)
  5. Alien (1979)
  6. Pandorum (2009)
  7. Fire in the Sky (1993)
  8. Battle for Los Angeles (2011)
  9. Pitch Black (2000)
  10. Sunshine (2007)
  11. The Thing (2011)
  12. Predator (1987)
  13. Solaris (2002)
  14. Planet of the Vampires (1965)
  15. Lifeforce (1985)
  16. Communion (1989)

Okay, so I lied. There are sixteen movies in the list. I had to include Communion with Christopher Walken. It is a great movie, it has aliens, and is creepy as fuck. 👽

I know I’ll probably get grumbling about having the original Alien listed below Aliens and Prometheus, but I like guns. Aliens has space marines! And Prometheus has a good story (IMHO) and there is a security team with guns. I like scifi, space, and horror movies in general, so I’ll watch just about anything in those genres before anything else. I recently rewatched a couple versions of Blade Runner (1982) and then went to see Blade Runner 2049 (2017) twice in the theater.

That’s it for now. Maybe later I’ll post my favorite horror and scifi movies in separate lists.
